Often criticized for trite, predictable programming, the Lifetime network is taking a bold new step into more serious fare this month with the release of “My Lover, My Daughter’s Lover” starring Valerie Bertinelli and Alexis Bledel.
“This one is different,” said Tammy Phelps, Lifetime’s VP of Programming. “It’s about the dangers of dating your daughters’ lover. I can think of no more poignant topic than that these days.”
Bertinelli, most recently seen in Jenny Craig commercials, echoed the sentiment.
“What a powerful, fresh take on the most important struggle of our time: mother-daughter love triangles,” said Bertinelli. “This movie may very well change the way we look at relationships altogether.”
Bledel was more subdued in her praise of the film.
“I suppose it’s not completely terrible,” she said. “It’s a paycheck.”
