‘Explosive stories from the heart’ aim to bring in male audience
In an effort to capture more viewers, specifically the husbands and boyfriends of the channel’s currently all-female audience, Lifetime Movie Network has developed nearly a dozen “male-friendly” original films.
“This new slate of movies will feature all the sensational sappiness our fans have come to know and love, but we’re also going to incorporate elements that appeal to men,” said Lifetime exec Mary Lou Wallace. “Explosions, car chases…we even have a project in development with Chuck Norris! Men love him almost as much as lonely housewives, who comprise 94% of our demographic.”
Among the new films are such high-octane projects as “A Piece Of My Heart Is A Bomb,” “Maximum Emotion” and “My Stepson, My Lover, My Superspy?”
“It’s ambitious, to be sure,” said Wallace. “But at the end of the day, if we get even one guy tuning in, that’s 100% more than we had before.”
In addition to films, the network plans to develop original series. The Hollywood Roaster has obtained a portion of the shooting script for one such pilot: “Adoption Force.”
